I Never Ski Without These Toe and Hand Warmers

I Never Ski Without These Toe and Hand Warmers

I grew up in Colorado, where it’s not uncommon to find dozens of toddlers pizza-ing their way down bunny hills. I was one such three-year-old. Despite my frequent complaints about chilly extremities and uncomfortable boots, I spent every winter of youth—and every one since—bundled in snow gear and sliding down mountains. At 30, it’s a skill I’m glad I have, especially on those bluebird days that combine powdery snow with the apricity of a sunny afternoon.

But even in the best conditions, I’ve learned that my fingers and toes can’t survive a full day on the slopes. With poor circulation, a low threshold for discomfort and a willingness to let everyone around me know how miserable I am, I’m ashamed to say that I’m not my best self when I’m cold. To cut my inner kvetcher off before she gains momentum, I rely on HotHands hand and toe warmers. With the former stuffed inside my mittens and the latter stuck to the bottom of my socks, I can finally ski without suffering—and for less than $1 apiece, too.

Between the two, toe warmers are more important. Once my toes lose their precious heat, there’s nothing I can do to warm them up until I step inside an extremely hot shower. Cold fingers are easier to remedy since I can wrap them around a steaming mug of hot chocolate when I go in for lunch. Still, I always make sure I have both before I set out for the day. It’s like bringing thin, portable space heaters that come up to temperature within 30 minutes and stay hot for a minimum of 8 hours. Even better, they come in packs of six or 10, so I always have enough to cover a few days of skiing.

Coupled with thick parkas and winter boots, it’s easy to stay warm in cold weather with HotHands hand warmers and toe warmers. Take it from someone who’s been battling the elements since she was three, you’ll have more fun if you’re properly equipped.
