The Soup in Jessie Buckley's Golden Globes Speech

  • Jessie Buckley unexpectedly thanked a crew member for his homemade soup in her Golden Globes speech.
  • The comforting dish was goulash, a hearty soup made with meat, veggies and paprika.
  • Soups like goulash are nourishing, comforting and nutrient-packed meals perfect for wintertime.

Last night, the 83rd Golden Globe Awards took place, highlighting the accomplishments of film and television stars from the past year. To no movie lover’s surprise, Jessie Buckley took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for her portrayal of Agnes in Hamnet

In her acceptance speech, Buckley made an unexpected shoutout that we’re entirely here for. Alongside thanking her fellow cast members and crew, she thanked key grip (AKA equipment technician) Tomasz Sternicki for the comforting dish he would make on set.

“I would really like to thank our grip, Tomasz,” Buckley said on the Golden Globes stage. “Because during shooting, Tomasz started to disappear a bit during the shoot, and I found him one day at the back of his truck, and he was chopping up potatoes and onions and meat—and he brought his ginormous cast-iron pot over from Poland—and he was making soup! And this soup started turning up on set.”

Buckley then goes on to say that the soup “was delicious” and that she needed to thank him for it. In the comments of an Instagram post, Sternicki confirmed that the rave-worthy soup was goulash, a hearty soup made with beef and vegetables as Buckley described, traditionally seasoned with paprika. On his Instagram story, he reposted a version of the soup featuring chicken, carrots, potatoes and other veggies, so we’re thinking that Sternicki uses a clean-out-the-fridge method.

No matter the protein, soup can be a satisfying option for a midday pick-me-up. Plus, adding a variety of vegetables in the mix will add essential nutrients like fiber and immune-supporting antioxidants, making the cozy lunch or dinner an ideal option for cold and flu season. The best part? Soups and stews are even better the next day, and you can store leftovers in your fridge or freezer to keep on hand throughout the season.
